Attention Little Van Gogh Artists!

An exciting and exclusive opportunity coming your way…

The Artist Residency

Artist residencies offer an artist an opportunity to develop their creative practice in a completely new environment. From painters to writers, musicians to poets there are residencies all over the world that invite creatives to come and explore their practice away from home.

A residency isn’t just an opportunity to find fresh inspiration it’s also a major stepping stone in an artist’s career. Collectors and curators take note of residencies listed on a CV and they provide a valuable indicator that the artist is serious and promising.

Residencies take many different forms and each one is unique in its offering. The Daad Artist-in-Residence Program in Berlin includes German language courses and takes place in the city centre, whilst The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine runs a program on a 350 acre lakeside farm.

No matter what the offering, ultimately a residency is an opportunity to grow as an artist and to make an evolutionary leap in practical and creative process.

Little Van Gogh Artist Residency

19th November- 26th November 2016

Little Van Gogh will now be offering a brand new one week residency at a New Forest studio. The residency is exclusively available to Little Van Gogh artists.

The residency will take place in the village of Ashurst inside the New Forest National Park. The area itself is one of outstanding natural beauty and not far from the coast offering an abundance of stunning places to explore.

We hope that this will give an artist an opportunity to explore their process outside of their normal environment. There is plenty of inspiration to be found in the local area, though there is no expectation that the artist should look here for subject matter.

This is a family friendly residency. Should artists require space to bring partners, children or carers with them, the accommodation consists of two bedrooms (1 double bed and 2 singles).

The Little Van Gogh Residency will supply and fund:

  • Fully furnished accommodation for a period of 1 week. The cottage is free of rental, gas and electricity charges to the artist in residence.  The accommodation consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen/ diner, living room and study
  • A conservatory studio space is available as part of the accommodation
  • A daily allowance of up to £40 per day will be paid in advance to the artist to assist with miscellaneous daily expenses (food, bike hire, etc.)
  • Up to £100 will be put towards travel expenses
  • The artist will be required to provide a fully refundable £100 deposit

The cottage is situated less than 1 minute’s walk from Ashurst, New Forest train station and within easy reach of the M3 and M27.

Art materials are not included as part of the residency.

The artist will be free to create whatever they like in the studio. We hope that time in a new environment will spark meaningful evolution in the artists’ practice.

An application must be made for the residency. If you would like to receive the application form when it comes out at the beginning of next month, please let us know by emailing info@littlevangogh.co.uk with ‘residency’ in the subject bar.
